The Summer holidays are almost over and it's nearly time to get back into the school routine. My two are entering years 4 & 2 this year, how on Earth did that happen? It really did not seem that long ago that my eldest was just starting kindergarten.
If you're also a parent of primary aged kiddies, you may have found the odd note or two in your young ones school bag warning about headlice. I keep my son's hair fairly short so although I have no wishes for him to get lice, I figured if he did - we'd be able to manage. My daughter on the other hand has curly hair and ever since she had started day care (now about to begin year 4) I had been petrified of her ever contracting head lice. She managed to make it through 3 years of day care and 2 and a bit years of primary school with no problems. Then, just before her year 2 school photos I took her to get a hair cut.
Just before Christmas I had entered a few giveaways in hopes to win some tickets to the Hunter Valley Gardens Christmas Lights Spectacular. You see, I had tried to take the kids a couple of times before back in 2016 & 2017. We made the 45 minute journey both years only to arrive and, while stopped for dinner, discover that they had been cancelled due to storms that were brewing - yep, both times. So you can imagine how excited I was to win tickets this year and not only did I win a family pass to the gardens to see the lights, but also an overnight stay at Harrigan's Irish Pub, which is right next door. I was a little nervous about locking in a date, given our previous run ins with the weather but luckily all the stars aligned and we finally got to go - not a storm in sight.
For those not familiar with the area, the Hunter Valley Gardens are located in the heart of Hunter Valley Wine Country (about 45 mins from Newcastle, where we are from). This trip was just me and the kids though so no wine tours or wine tastings this visit *** insert whines here ***
Christmas has now passed but if you're like most people, you may have noticed a hole in your bank account comparable to the size of the Grand Canyon. When I look at my post Christmas bank balance, I do a little more than just whine - it's more like a full blown adult tanty. With 6 weeks of school holidays I pray that the Christmas gifts that I'd purchased for the Tiny Whinies are enough to entertain them until school goes back as there's little left over for costly school holiday activities. However, there are a few things you can do to put some dollars back in your pocket and help ease financial stress in the new year.
Happy New Year wine lovers! What better way to start 2019 than with a giveaway? As you may have noticed I have started a small (very small at the moment) online store on the page. I'm so very excited to introduce you to the very first product. I obviously love wine and I love anything glittery and if any of you out there do too, then this product is for you.
Our Glitter Stemless Stainless Steel Wine Tumblers are an exciting addition to the site. Not only are they shatterproof - so perfect for parties, camping and travelling, but they are double insulated so they will keep your wine nice and cool for up to 10hrs. Of course you don't have to use them just for wine, but whatever beverage you choose. You can also fill them with a hot beverage during the wintertime and it will keep warm for up to 4hrs. Each cup also comes with a lid, not 100% spill proof however if you're tumbler does happen to topple over the lid will slow down any wine that tries to escape.
Wining and whining my way through life.
