It's November 30 and if you have young children then you know what that means? It's time to pull The Elf on the Shelf back out in hopes to entice your children to behave in the final weeks before Christmas. So as you may have guessed, our elf's name is Scout. We pinched the name from the book that accompanied him, I think? I bought Scout two years ago for Tiny Whiny #1's birthday and then last year we bought him a pet reindeer so he had someone to get up to mischief with. For the life of me I cannot remember what we named the reindeer - hopefully the kids remember or we may just be renaming him this year. So what do Scout and co get up to each night?
Believe it or not our family actually do engage in some alcohol-free traditions during the festive season. Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of wines that are consumed once the Christmas decorations come out, mostly by me as hubby doesn't drink wine, or even alcohol for that matter, and obviously the Tiny Whinies are a little young for the adult version of grape juice so we have to have a few family friendly traditions that we can all be involved in. Tiny Whiny #1's birthday is in the first week of December so one of the traditions is that we always put the tree up and decorate it together on her birthday …… awww x
Another is our yearly Christmas card photo shoot. Yeah I know I made that sound fancy but it's basically just me sticking some Santa hats on the kiddies, snapping a few pics and praying that they are worthy of being printed on a card that I can send to family and friends.
Just above you'll see one of the snaps from last year. I was pretty happy with it. After bribing the kids with candy canes I got some genuine smiles and both of them looking at the camera at the same time so that's a win in my books. This year, well that's another story......
We all have people in our lives who we have to buy a gift for at Christmastime but don't necessarily want to. You know, like your boss, the work college you got stuck with for secret Santa, your mother-in-law or a distant relative who just happens to be visiting this Christmas. What do you get for them? Sure, you could buy them a bottle of wine but that might disillusion them into thinking you actually like them - and you if you have to spend time with these people at Xmas you'll definitely be needing to keep that for yourself!
So, I've created a little gift guide of 'Whiney' gifts. Perfect for gifting to Christmas Grinches and people you have to pretend to like!
Christmas is creeping closer and closer. If you haven't already started your Christmas shopping it's time to get cracking! I'm a last minute shopper. My family are pretty fuss free to buy for - wine, gift cards (in case they'd like to choose their own wine) and chocolate are usually my go to gifts to grab a couple of days before the big day. The kids presents I leave up to Santa - he's got that covered for me, right?
If you're considering gifting some amazing wine paired with delicious gourmet bites maybe a hamper is the way to go? I've found some gorgeous hampers that will delight any food and wine lover this Christmas, here are my top picks ….
Wining and whining my way through life.
