Can you believe that Father's Day is less than a month away? It's time to start thinking about that perfect gift. If your dad is a bit of a bookworm, and likes to relax by pairing a great wine with an equally great read, then maybe you should consider Frank Spencer' s second novel - The Silk Road Wars.
The Silk Road Wars is a historical novel covering the Ming Dynasty from 1830 to 1914 and China’s creation of its formidable army to fight off the many and regular invaders. The Silk Roads created a vast trading empire that made China the wealthiest of nations. This also made China the prize other nations strived to plunder. The book follows Chi, a General who was a master in the art of war, and his father who was a wizard in designing and manufacturing weapons of war.

It's no secret that I'm not a huge fan of Winter. Winter brings us so many things to whine about - the cold weather, the high energy bills and ohhh the germs. We spend a great deal of time indoors during the Winter months which means, and here come the mum guilt, my kids spend way more time than I'd like them to on their devices when it starts chilling off. Staring at screens for lengthy periods is not great for their eyes or overall health.
Thankfully, for days where we allow our children more screen time than we should, we can protect them from harmful UV Blue light with Mitochondria safe Blue Blocking Glasses from MitoHQ.
Dry July is well underway now and for those who are participating, kudos to you. I love everything that Dry July stands for and all that it does to help and support those affected by cancer, however I have yet to participate myself. Why? Well despite how it may appear, writing a wine blog and all, I don't actually drink alcohol every single day, but I feel like if I were to try and abstain from consuming wine for an entire month a couple of not-so-nice things might occur. One being that I might make it to the end of the month - woo hoo, 31 days alcohol free and then bam, party time - and I might just find myself over indulging and making up for lost time. Hangovers are definitely not my thing. The second being that if I can't enjoy a sip of my favourite wines for an entire month, I could very well become difficult (or should I say more difficult - haha) to live with and I'd really hate to see my Mr Whine & the Tiny Whinies become homeless for July. I mean, right in the middle of winter - that's just cruel, it's freezing outside.
But, back to those who are participating, I totally applaud you and if you are looking for some delicious beverages to sip on while you complete the challenge, here are some yummy mocktail recipes that will tide you over until you reach your goal.
I had heard of Naked Wines before, visited their website once or twice and even considered purchasing - but had not yet taken the plunge. Well that all changed last week when I was scrolling through my Facebook and a sponsored ad for Naked Wines popped up in my news feed. I clicked on it, filled out a little wine quiz and upon finishing was offered a $50 voucher off a case containing 6 pre-selected wines. There was an option for 6 whites, 6 reds or a mixed case of 3 whites & 3 reds - I chose the mixed. This offer was too good to refuse, I was in!
For the green thumb and DIY master of the family, a gift from Power Planter will be sure to get them smiling. The Power Planter attaches to a standard drill and can be used to dig holes for planting or cultivating soil with little effort. Imagine, being able to dig 100 holes in 10 minutes - gardening has never been so easy.
It's literally ground-breaking! Once attached to a regular 18v cordless drill, it turns into a soil digging machine. Wherever you would use a spade, mattock or fork to dig, the Power Planter can do the job 5 times faster and with virtually no effort. So you can get that gardening job completed in less than half the time and be admiring your handiwork with a wine glass in hand much sooner than expected.
Well, this blog is call Wine After Whine, so I guess it's fitting for me to share my Wine List and my Whine List with you. My 'Wine List' being the wines I absolutely love and my 'Whine List' being the top things that really get my goat!
* Piper Heidsieck
Well this is pretty much my all time favourite champagne. I love it so much I named my first born after it!! Just kidding, she's named after the character from Charmed but that would have made a cool story. Even Marilyn Munroe loved Piper, once declaring 'I go to bed every night with Chanel No.5 behind my ears, and wake up every morning with a glass of Piper Heidsieck'. That sounds like perfection to me, but it's usually out of my budget, so she is reserved for very special occasions only.
* Bird In Hand Sparkling Pinot Noir
Funny story behind how I first came to try the Bird In Hand Sparkling Pinot Noir. I had Qantas Frequent Flyer points that were due to expire and because they were accumulated by shopping at Woolies, not actual travel, I didn't have many but still - I did not want them to go to waste. So it was straight to the wine section, I had enough points for one whole bottle. I pretty much favour anything sparkling over still when it comes to wine, life's better with bubbles I think, so I added the Bird In Hand to my cart, waited for it to arrive and after the first sip - it became one of my faves.
